Craft Class

I attended a craft class on Sat morning to make a collage picture that I had liked on the wall of my favourite store  "In a Pear Tree". There were 7 of us taking the class from the artist that has lots of her quirky pieces for sale in the store. It was very well done with all pieces we needed to use, cut a ahead and assembled in plastic bags for us. The class was about 2.5 hours long and I had a great time learning a new craft idea.

Of course when I got home, my create juices were running fast, so I made a couple more hangings for the living room.... These I made in about 20 mins and I am quite happy how they look from a distance ...ha ha

Saturday evening was the Mystery Dinner where you had to decide what you were getting for supper from a list of words that  had a hidden meaning related to the item on the menu. The meal was three course and the following where how I had my meal.

First course:      Baked Potato with sour cream
                          Bun
                         Apple sauce
                         Cup of Iced Tea

Second Course: Napkin
                          Peas, Beans and Corn
                          Caesar Salad
                          Egg roll
                          Fork

Third Course:   Spoon
                          Roast Pork
                          Knife
                          Pineapple Upside down Cake

Harvey was just ready for anything in any order. But lucked out getting a knife and fork with his first course

Back at it.

It seems I have not posted for a few days but I will just blame it on having company..... But really it is just getting stressed trying to do it when my Internet connection goes out half way through each time. Today I am over in the Club house and the connection is great.
As far as the dental plate, I cancelled out of my appointment knowing that the cost would be so big even for the consultation and I don't think it can be fixed. I also slept in!!
We have been on one bus trip to another casino where I had a great machine and played on it all day. I won and lost and came home up $50 but others in our house did not do as well. lol
Vel and I spent one day just doing the stores in the Promenade Mall. Well actually after about half the stores, we were pooped out and came home. There were lots of great deals and I got 2 nice pairs of dress pants for $9 each and many tops (some even jewelled) for around $5 each .

Yesterday we did a day trip up to Goldfield Ghost Town in Apache Junction where we walked the streets of the old west, went into the saloons, bordellos and other shops and watched a gun fight in the street in front of us.
I was taking pictures out on the street and Vel and Harvey were  sitting on the bench infront of a store and one of the bad guys came up to me and asked who are those two you are taking pictures of....I said "my husband and sister in law ."

.He asked if I wanted them taken out and I said.."What would it cost?" and he said "What would you pay?"...I said...".Well, a girl in a bordello costs $2.00 , so a fiver should do the job"... He agreed and said he would take the bodies to Boot Hill for the price as well.
Later in the day we saw him and I said..I thought you were going to take out my hubby... He said "We did ..last night... and he is a heavy drinker but a great dancer lol"

We also went to Apacheland Movie Studios or what is left of it. This was a place that a lot of famous old movie stars made movies...like Elvis in "Charro" ,also TV shows like "Death Valley Days", "Have Gun Will Travel". "Rawhide". "Wagon Train", "Bonanza" and many many more.
The church where Elvis lay dying in "Charro" has now been made into a memorial chapel to Elvis.
There have been two suspicious fires at this place that have destroyed many buildings.

On the way home we stopped for gas and Harvey realized that he had never got back his credit card after paying for our lunch at the Mammoth Saloon. We were too far away to go back so we phoned Mastercard to cancel our cards.....Sheesh how do I shop now.....
I also tried to call my friend at the credit union to ask her about new cards and somehow when I thought I did not get her, I did not cancel the call,  so her and another friend  listened in, while we drove home arguing about being lost near the prisons in Florence and how fast Harvey was driving. I am glad we were able to give them something to laugh about before they left for the day....lol

Alive and well

All is well here at Sunscape, but Internet connection is awful. Every time I try to write something "poof" it disappears as I lose connection.
Tues at 8:00 am I am going to a different dentist office that assures me someone will look at my denture and tell me what can be done and will not x-ray my head....
Saturday the phone rang and Harvey answered it and it was the Aspen Dental Office (the Mafia guy) and it was a recording  saying " We are sorry we were not able to help you yesterday and value your business so please phone back and make another appointment" Oh I will phone back and tell them to please take all the personal information I was forced to give them and to tear it up in little bits and shove it up their ...x-ray machine...
Yesterday was the Street Fair and Car show and it was fabulous. I would think  there were at least  150 booths in the downtown streets and lots of antique cars.  We did buy a few things but found lots we liked and hoped to go back to get later but the feet just wore out.
Next was a half hour drive to Maricopa to Harrah's Ak Chin Casino and had their Seafood buffet. Now it was free for signing up for their player card but we saw some paying $24 for it. It was ok but I would never have paid that amount , and I certainly have had better buffets.

Today we shopped a bit and then went out to Eloy again to watch the skydivers. We figured it was a place to sit in the sun and enjoy the jumps....As soon as we got there the sky clouded over the sun went away and it was cold so we came home soon.
Tonight was we had a choice paying $8 to listen to a semi famous Yodeler or go play Trivia. We chose Trivia and only 8 showed up. Some of the hardest questions I have ever heard.....like "What is the name of the worlds deepest trench?  For those of you wanting the answer it was Mariana Trench......I never even knew that they named trenches ........

Tomorrow we leave at 8:30 am on a bus trip to Wild Horse Casino for the day....It costs $5.00 and we get in on lots of money draws and other free stuff.  As I said before  "I will never be one of those seniors who goes south for the winter, plays bingo and goes on free bus trips"  Oh dear what has happened to me......

Well it is now 9:35 pm and 5 mins past my bed time...... so Goodnight

Thought of the day

My friend Donna gave me a motivational thought calandar that I have on my kitchen counter. This is the one for two days ago...

WELL I DID      MANY TIMES

Complete Frustration

A few days ago, I developed a sore spot under my bottom partial dental plate and had to take it out to let it heal. Some how two days later I found that it was bent and a crack was in the metal part that attached to my four remaining teeth. I had it in my pocket and so I sat on it or some other ridiculous accident happened to cause this crack.  I ate like a rabbit for a day and smiled carefully before I decided I needed to find a denturist to see if it could be fixed and how much? Now at home a denturist is very easy to find....Phone Pratt or Plaza Denture Clinic ..... I went to the yellow pages and not a denturist listed in Casa Grande. Oh yes 7 pages of dentists but it said they did denture repairs. I closed my eyes and picked one, made a phone call and had an appointment at 3:15. They said to fill out the paper work on line and that would speed things up. I did and printed it off to take with me.
I found the big building in the Walmart lot that yelled "RICH" entered and was told that there were 3 more pages to fill in.....ok??? I had to answer every medical history question you could imagine from was I nursing? to every surgery I might have had, every drug I had taken in the last year to height, weight and how many pimples on my butt....well not really the last one, but they might as well have asked.....
I was soon called in and taken to a small room where I was told to hang my purse on a hook way up high.....I said "WHY" ? She said "so you can go stand in front of the x-ray machine for your x-rays".....I replied  "You have to be kidding?" She said "No ..you are a new patient and must have x-rays but they are free the first time."  I said "I am here to have my dental plate looked at to see if it can be fixed and I do not believe in x-rays unless they are for a medical problem I am dealing with....."
She said "I will go talk to the office manager" She came back and told me to go have a chair and he would be out to talk to me. After 10 mins he came out and said in a stern Mafia type voice "So I hear you do not want an x-ray?" I said "you are right. I phoned and asked if I could have my dental plate looked at to see if it could be fixed." He said the only way to do that is to be made a patient first with x-rays and dental check up , cleaning etc and then they would assess my plate. I said "That is pure Bull shit and absolutely ridiculous. I came to have a piece of plastic in my purse looked at and not to have a medical procedure on my body." He said "well you will not find a place in town that is just a dental lab and so Good bye"... I said $#^%$#@@,  No,  I didn't but if I was a swearing woman..I am sure I would have.......     I left very frustrated and did what any fat woman would do....I went and bought an ice cream cone...
We are so lucky to live in Canada where universal health care is free and never have to be asked if we have insurance etc and where medical people do not rule the government..... Go Obama...fix America...I know you can......
I can not even imagine having to pay the high premiums Americans do for medical insurance, and having to think about cost when it comes to medical procedures like doctor visits, x-rays, surgery, birth of babies, MIR's,  fixing broken bones etc.  We are so advanced over the US when it comes to health....

So after that rant. back to my dental plate and what I did..after the ice cream....I went to Walmart and bought crazy glue and put it on the crack. I washed it good this morning and put into my mouth not sure if it would poison me or what.    Now the next thing is to drive 2 hours and go to Mexico and get a new plate in a few hours for cheap..... Just to find a free day to do that.........

Boring

Monday was a very laid back day where we did zippo.  I had some allergy symptoms pop up at 2 am and by 4am I took a nighttime Benydril and thus slept until 9 and felt like crap all day long. I washed some clothes, went to the club house to do some computer work (much stronger signal over there).Harvey went for a long walk and marvelled at the amount of water sitting on sand after our 12 hour rain. The evening was spent watching the Betty White Birthday Special on TV ....
See I told you it was a boring day and not worth me writing it....

Today we are off to town to get an oil change, a hair cut for Harvey, groceries and the Farmers Market for great artisan breads and buns.......

Well they must have noticed how boring this post was as a huge hot air balloon just came down in the garbage area. We think it must be a problem as why would a hot air balloon sit down there,,,,must be an easier way to get rid of your trash lol

Monday Monday

It looks like I took the weekend off and did not post at all.... I actually don't know the difference between weekday and weekend..they all look the same when you are retired.

Saturday morning was the craft sale and it started at 8 am. Now who goes to garage sales at 8 am...that is a ridiculous time but, many seniors had been up for hours and ready for the excitement.....lol
I sold about $70 of cards but purchased about $140 of things that vendors around me were selling. Good thing I do not do that for a living.
One of the vendors that I was chatting with asked if I was setting up a table next month and I said "No". He said " Well the talk is, that none of the vendors are coming either if you are not going to be here to buy our stuff lol "  Funny guy.....

The vendor across from me was selling neat T shirts and sweat shirts that I really liked and so I bought, the man next to me on one side sold polished wood things and I bought a frig magnet that is the strongest magnet I have ever found. He said one magnet will hold a whole newspaper on the frig door and it does. BUT...who wants a newspaer stuck to their frig door....
I also bought a sweater jacket, a necklace and a padded bag to hold my GPS and cords. Harvey bought a Sunscape RV Park polo shirt and I begged him to go find other things to buy to ease my guilt but he did not....

After the craft sale was over at noon, we headed over to the Fair grounds which is just down the road where the Home, Health and Garden show was going on along with a car and motorcycle show.
We spent about an hour there ( not good at all) and home for supper and off to the Texas Holdum tourney at 7 pm. Harvey was able to hold out till the last table and won 4th prize of $25.....I was about the 4th of the 25 players that ran out of chips and so I was home about an hour before Harvey.

Sunday morning saw us off to Florence to pick up the Bergs and off to Queen Creek Olive Mill for their "Festival of the New Oil"  We looked forward to lunch and sitting out under the olive trees and listen to all the live music and goings on while we sampled wine and cheese . We had our lunch, looked around the wonderful store and then outside. As we were sampling our wine, the rain started and got quite heavy so we headed inside to sample all the different kinds of olive oils, balsamic vinegars, and tapenades.....Oh they were fabulous and nothing you can buy in the local store can hold a candle to any of them. We bought Roasted Garlic Olive Oil, Meyer Lemon Olive Oil, Caramelized Red Onion and Fig Tapenade and 3 bottles of  Balsamic vinegar --aged, fig, and chili.  The chocolate olive oil was very interesting but did not buy....

Karen got a new app for her iPhone called "Aging Booth" You take your picture and then it ages you....Karen's was so funny so I tried it ...How do you think I look with white hair...I just may go that route ....
and here is Karen's for those of you that are not her friend on Facebook.

Crafty me

I have finally started making a few things to brighten up the house a bit .
I made a grouping of 6 blocks for one wall as seen below.... Just 5 pieces of Styrofoam, a few pieces of scrap booking paper and glue and some peel off  tape on the back to hold them up until we leave, and then they will go in garbage....so easy and so nice looking

In the kitchen, I took some old coasters from home, painted them blue, photocopied some vintage pictures off the web and Mod Podged them on to the coasters. These too are hung using removable tape.....

Today is Friday 13th  so stay safe out their dear friends and family. Don't walk under any cats or let any black ladders cross in front of you....or visa versa I guess.

This afternoon we will be helping the park set up for the craft sale tomorrow morning. I will have to be there by 7:30 at the latest on Saturday to set up my table to sell cards. I went to another park yesterday to check out their crafts and to see if any one was selling cards to see what they are charging to give me an idea on what to charge..... Two women were selling cards and theirs were so different from mine I figured I would just sell them all for $2.00 and get rid of as many as possible.
Those I like myself will be priced at $3.00  and then I can start over when I get home and create some different ones. ( Or maybe I will do more of altered art things such as journal covers and wall hangings.)  I had close to 300 cards and time to get rid of them if I can.

For those wondering about Harvey dancing on his birthday, it did not happen as we did not go to the Gallopin' Goose as it was full and no room for the group that were planning on going. Our friends met us in the city at the Golden Corral Buffet and we kind of  overate the evening away and then back to our place for coffee and chat.
Harvey says thanks to all those who sent Birthday wishes via the blog, email, Facebook or phone calls.

Happy Birthday Harvey

As today is Harvey's birthday, I thought I would honor him by putting his picture at the top of the page.  I will then wake him to see if he wants to go to a craft sale with 80 tables at another park. I know he will go even if he is bored as he likes to get out.
Yesterday afternoon we were sitting on our one love seat, the rest are lawn chairs, playing on our two laptops.  At the same time we both said...and laughed...."we might as well be home at the lake doing this"  But at least we can go out side without a coat, mitts or tougue. It has only been around 17 for some days and also two days of clouds but hope it clears off soon and gets warmer.
Yesterday at billiards, there was a bit of a ruckus, when one opinionated and sarcastic fellow, finally got on another's  nerves and the second fellow announced.."I am leaving and I will not be back as long as YOU are here." They then had a meeting and were told how to play nice lol. Yes we start out in life as children saying just what we think and later in life we revert back to those same traits.
Tonight we are off to the Gallopin' Goose for supper and dancing..lol Harvey says "Dancing? over my dead body lol lol"

Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

It seems I have not posted for two days, as some readers have drawn to my attention with emails. This is not a novel and the next chapter probably will not get any more exciting and there is no plot and we sure as heck hope, there is no surprise ending..haha

Oops I just see where the last post did not go through either..... so two today.......
I have been busy setting up my new computer and GPS. Well that is not really true, as I paid Office Max to set up the new notebook, $69 and in that, they installed the virus scan. I came home to try to get the GPS set up, by connecting to my new computer. This one has a lifetime of free map updates but that had to be set up on the computer now. Well, somehow in the process, I uninstalled everything I paid the guy $69 to do, as all of a sudden I had no Virus scan and a few other strange things happened. So the next day, with head hung low, I had to go back and confess what I did. I thought they may charge me again but the nice fellow Danny played around for awhile and then reversed the uninstall,. I bet I could have done that easy myself.  haha.

We went to Card Bingo the other night where you deal out cards and then the caller calls the cards ( 3 of hearts) and if you have it, you throw it away and the first person to get rid of all cards can yell Bingo and win the pot. Now the last game costs $1 so with 40 people that is a nice win. Some games cost .25 cents but most games cost 10 cents. Yes that is one of the ones I won but had to share with some one else and came home with  BIG WIN OF $1.90....oh getting old is fun......

Yesterday morning was the Sir John A MacDonald Birthday Bash Breakfast for all Canadians in the park. It was held at a restaurant in town called the Golden Corral. It was a fabulous buffet with a choice of 50 plus dishes including steak cooked to your liking, all the usual breakfast fare, many kinds of pies, fresh hot donuts and muffins, a full length of table full of hot Mexican breakfast things, omelet station and much more.
All for $5.99 .   The only thing that was not much fun was that all the Canadians seemed to come in groups and sit together and talk.  We were lonely........

Today I spent getting ready for the craft sale on Saturday, where I hope to get rid of a bunch of my cards....It is from 8 to noon and as well there are yard sales all over the park....

Tomorrow, we have been invited out for supper and dancing at the Gallopin' Goose in Coolidge which is 12 miles away, with Art and Carol Berg and another couple. This worked out great, as Thursday is Harvey's birthday and so he will get to do what he loves best  ...Dancing...NOT. But it will be fun to eat, visit and listen to music and celebrate his last year of his 6th decade.

Stolen Goods

I have stole cotton and I have stole an orange.
Now the cotton is still standing in the fields after most has been harvested, I think, and the orange had been knock from the tree, so I am not sure if this constitutes stealing or not.  I think the cotton is so neat as we had never seen the cotton fields before and the amount of cotton laying on the roads sides would stuff a mattress if I stopped and picked it all up, but that I am not about to do lol.

Honey on left and Medjool on right

I also have become addicted to fresh dates. They are the sweetest thing I have tasted in a long time and every time we go to town we pass a stand selling them...There are two kinds ,the larger Medjool palm date that they say are more for cooking but taste great too. The smaller Honey Dates are the best and if one just happens to stop and buy a bag on the way into town to shop by ones self, one might find that the bag is near empty by the time one gets back home. Scrumptious

I am writing this on my new HP Notebook and as I am not very good on the finger pad and have yet to go buy a wireless mouse, this is all for today

Expensive Day

The day started with my finding a list of many garage sales, printing off the addresses and then creating and printing off a map with the places of the garage sales,  then convincing Harvey we should try to find them. We left at 10 am (which makes most of the good stuff picked over already) and headed into the city with the GPS ready. "Gladys the GPS" took us to the first one, which of course meant, everyone else on the street threw a table into their drive way and joined the Sat morning fun. We looked at lots of junk, like at home, and went onto the next one.....I bought a mug...... (not worth the gas).. I programmed in the next place which was in the old town and Gladys  just turned over on her side and passed away. She no longer could find the satellite signal and felt she had served her purpose and was not going to play our game any longer. I hoped when I plugged her into my computer at home she would get jolted back to life but no response. Maybe she just wants to be back in Canada and also figures she should have a holiday as well.  After many stores comparing prices we bought a new GPS that is a lot bigger and today I will get it set up. It is funny how by the time I unfold a map and Harvey pushes it aside, yelling, because he can't see the road we have missed the place we are going, so a GPS has become as vital to our sanity as sleep. How times change, soon paper map companies will die with the mail service.

We then made the purchase of a new laptop computer as the hard drive in mine is nearly kaput as well. That too will be on today's agenda to get the HP notebook set up. Now as long as the old Dell keeps going we will have two computers while here.

As we were in old downtown, we walked the streets, had lunch and then I then found a store to die for.....I asked the owner if I could just move in and live there for two months. It is called "In A Pear Tree" and has all types of funky art things like jewellery, clothes, paintings, purses, shoes, and a zillion other things that you can take classes and make yourself. It is a mixture of crafty things (I figure I want to try to make) and out landish things that yell "ME".  I signed up for one class already, to make a wall hanging, and as the class is held out on the sidewalk in front of the store under the awning, I will feel like I am in Paris, creating my art on a street corner, with passer bys , stopping to look at what I am doing. lol

In the evening, was our Texas Holdum tournament, which my auto correct on my iPhone, told Karen I was going to a Texas Holdup tournament. About 30 residents (ooooh that sounds like the Palliser) mostly men, showed up and a fun evening was held. I outlasted Harvey by about 20 mins but soon I was out of chips as well, and home we went.  I was at a table with 5 men who most seemed to be grumpy and way to serious about the game. They had no sense of humor and no talking. They all seemed to be playing like those they watch on TV and I was amazed they never had sun glasses on to hide their emotions when bluffing. Most were alos, quite hard of hearing, which added to my enjoyment.  Yikes I am too young for this park I think lol

We have nothing planned for today, so maybe I will finally get busy in my craft shed and get some things created for the walls.

3rd Post of the Morning

Due to the stubbornness of the weak Internet in the house, I have not been able to post some days so today I am catching up and posting three times.
After having my pedicure, we got Harvey a phone as his phone could not be programmed for the states so it was left at home. I did not like him not having a phone on him when we were separated and someone said get one at Walmart. It cost $9.88, plus a $20 card that gives him 130 mins or 150 days.
It will not be used much but if it is he can just buy another card. They program in a number for you and BAM he has a phone. We learn from experience and with the poor reception I get on my iPhone, I am not sure that the next time, we would not just get 2 of these phones and the line phone (45 a month) and scrap the iPhone North American Plan that costs $95 a month where data is of no use when out of WiFi area and phone reception is simply awful.

Next we headed east to Desert Gardens near Florence where Art and Carol Berg are staying. We took a tour of their park and all the elegant facilities and then headed out for an afternoon of driving and seeing areas we had not seen. We headed up an Arizona mountain to the Ray copper mine where we viewed them mining the copper way down in the valley. It was like watching dinky toys which were actually huge trucks and equipment. Very interesting to see how they had cut the hills in their mining.

If you click on any picture it should enlarge hopefully

Art then thought he would show how we can get to the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway airport that he did not know existed. After trying to find the airport on his GPS (which obviously did not know the airport existed as well), for some time, I remembered I had the address with me. So he imput the info and off we went. After  many different freeways and more freeways (it seemed to us) we found the airport. At this point it was heard from my mouth or Harveys...."Maybe Vel could taxi to our house....or maybe she could walk....or maybe she could fly to the little sky diving airport near us.." Harvey and I were very confused as we had never driven in the huge area of Mesa and all the cities that seem to all blend in. A great mall was very near the airport and as we were hungry we thought we would go eat. I saw a place called "Sweet Tomatoes". I had read about it but could not remember what it was , but thought we would give it a try. It is a huge salad buffet with pretty well any thing you would want to put into a salad. You then could choose from 5 different kinds of soups and many topping for those. This was followed by diff breads, biscuits or corn muffins, baked potatoes (white and sweet) and all the toppings as well or two kids of pizza. Then desserts of apple crisp, different kinds of soft yogurt (which tasted more like ice cream) and hot choc or hcarmel sauces and lots more toppings. You could go back as many times as you wanted and all for $10.99.  We realized that it is a very healthy buffet with all most no fat or no sugar, no MSG, lots of whole wheat products etc and also NO MEAT.
It was very good though and would recommend if you see one.

It was dark when leaving and Art decided to program into the GPS the shortest way home and we flew back to their place as easy as pie and at that time we realized that we could get to the airport very easy going this way....so have no fear visitors...we will not leave you at the airport.

Back at the Bergs motor home, we had coffee and many laughs, triggered by the fact that I had left voice memo, on my phone, turned on , in my pocket, and had recorded our whole conversation for the last hour or more. Carol also told us about her "crafty" nature and how she could create just about any thing from a cut off milk carton, even while the vehicle is driving along the interstates. A fun day in all.

Pedicure Heaven

I had posted this on Face Book yesterday but figured it needed a spot on my blog.  As I had said on an earlier blog, my toes were so happy to finally get back into sandals and see the sun, but they were a bit "toothie" as I really needed a pedicure, and paint job.
The Super  Wal-Mart in Casa Grande has a Nails Only shop, that when I have passed could see it is very busy and has about 10 or 12 employees. About half male and half female and I found out they are all from Viet Nam.....some, who can not even speak English. There is no service desk at all and so when I first walked one day, I had to look around and try to find out how to get an appointment. Quickly a fellow came up to me and advised that you just walk in and someone will help you, no appts allowed....same as the hair salon.... So today I walked in , with my toes wiggling in excitement.
It was wonderful.... My fellow was named Louis, his birth name I could not even understand, but it did have a "looo" sound in it , so I imagine that is why someone decided he should be called Louis.
He took a full hour and he worked on my toes for about 30 mins, then my whole foot was sanded, buffed and massaged. Next my legs were massaged, pounded, lubricated and hot stones rubbed all over them and the last 5 mins were spent painting......An hour of heaven....and all for only $20 plus tip.
My new friend Louis  (21)

SkyDive Arizona

I have a very poor Internet connection here and some how yesterdays post did not go through so there are two today..if this gets posted......  SORRY this one did not go through either.....grrrrrr

Yesterday afternoon we decided to drive to Eloy to the Sky Diving capital of the world it seems. We heard so many different languages being spoken I guess skydivers come from all over the world to jump where the land is flat, the sky is clear, the sun is hot and there is no wind.  A plane goes up every 20 mins or so with about 10 - 15 jumpers....We watched the plane until it disappears from sight and then watch again as it returns to the terminal.  In a few mins the sky lights up with many different colors of parachutes descending.....and they all land in front of us as we sit in the spectator stands. It was spectacular and all free. There is a complete village set up with many motel like housing units, even tents set up, a swimming pool, store, cafe and saloon etc , just for these jumpers who come to spend time jumping all day long.  They told us that this weekend is a big weekend for Canadians as a huge number will be coming to jump.

There also is an indoor sky jumping arena  which is just a wind tunnel where for a price you can go in and practice falling in space. Any age from 3 up can go in with an instructor who will show you how to ride the wind....It looked fun......

Request

I am not sure why Blogspot makes it so hard for someone to leave a comment on Blogs if you do not have a google account but it just does. If you use google calendar, you would have an account, or if you use GMail, you would as well.

Thanks so much for those of you that have left comments, it is always fun to see your name.

Harvey had a fun day at billiards playing against another park team but he thinks they did not win DUH! I would think that would be important to know lol   Oh well he is having fun, but he said he and his  partner had some bad luck on some of the shots.....so.....!
Karen, you asked if women could not watch...  well here is the story......the first day we were here, we went around to all the activity centres and rooms to see what was going on and we happened to go to the pool room and I walked in with Harvey behind me....About 30 men all looked up and chuckled and one said "Are you looking for Honey Bun"...."just go a head and Yell out "HONEY BUN"  so I did and everyone laughed  and pointed to one guy....we laughed and left quickly. Now the next day Harvey was playing with all the fellows and I went to the craft and computer room which is next door to the pool room for awhile.  As I was heading home,I thought I would just peek in to see how he was enjoying it......I peeked my head around the door and a guy said "Oh it is Honey Bun" every one laughed, Harvey said "What do you want?"  I replied "Nothing" and ....Harvey quickly yelled across the room..."Bugger off", which I am sure he regretted after his male pride made him say it lol.
I left promptly..... The next day as he was leaving for pool, he warned me NOT to drop in as the guys make fun of anyone whose wife stops by........so hopefully that answers the questions on the subject of watching the tournament or even taking pictures.

Billiards a la Harvey

Harvey is into morning pool games with about 20-30 other men and plays Mon, Wed, and Fri. On Mondays they play to qualify to play in the weekly tournament against the other RV parks in the vicinity and of course Harvey made the team, so this afternoon they play here against Val Vista Park.

It is so nice for him to get involved in something he enjoys and that also lets me do some women things and not feel bad that he is sitting home alone.

Yesterday while he was playing, I went to town and got my hair cut and colored. I was starting to look like the scare crow from the Wizard of OZ....yellow and sticking out like I  could fly......I feel much better now. I also picked up a valour jogging suit for $25 that I can put on in the early morning, cover up with my soft new throw and surf, TV, or read with out turning on the heat until Harvey gets up many hours later (well other than pool mornings, when he is up bright and early lol) Last night it was so hot in here I had to have the fan on over the bed as the heat of the day had heated up the house good and I am not ready for air conditioning yet.....But mornings are very cool until the sun warms up the sand again.

This morning is the Town Hall meeting and I am sure it will be a lively one as it seems there are a lot of problems happening here at the park, such as the manager Dale was let go,  and as his wife is the office manager, that probably means she is gone too, As this is a private park, run and owned by the resident owners, they have more to do and say in the running than a lot of parks that are owned by corporations.
I do not know all the stories and as just renters we do not need to know,  but seniors gossip a lot, and so we over hear things....just too much time on our hands I guess lol

59 days left

I have a count down calendar on my phone and this morning it told me only 59 more days until we go home again. It said 79 days when we left our place on Dec 13th.  Time flies and so does the owl that woke me at 4:30 am. There is a resident owl that lives in a tall Palm tree down the street and I think he figured that this morning he should do his hooting close to this house. Well actually I should not blame the sweet owl as I usually wake up at that time any way..but more fun to blame him.

Our New Years brunch was very good and it was super crowded in the club house with every table taken while we were there. It started at 9 and ran until noon. We went around 10:15 with our plates , forks and knives and mugs in a bag. Here at the park, what ever you go to a function where food is served, you must take your own table setting. When you first walk in you pay the $6 each and then are handed a plastic baggie (heavy duty one), onto which they print your first name and last initial. The lady  puts 2 raw eggs, minus the shells into the bag and you then walk down a long table and put in all the things you would like in your omelet. I put in  ham, sausage, bacon, tomatoes, red onions, green onions, and green and red peppers. After handing the bag to the lady at the end of the table, she rolls all the air out of the bag and seals it. My understanding is that when they have about a dozen, they are put into a pot of boiling water and boiled for 7 mins. Meanwhile we filled our plate with fruit salad, muffins, 2 kinds of hash browns and some other creamy sweet salads, got our Mimosa and coffee and waited a few mins until our omelet arrived. It was huge as I think I put too many other ingrediants into the bag.....but excellant flavor. The only thing I forgot was my camera to take a picture of the food.....Oh right ...this is a travel blog, not a food blog.....

The afternoon brought temps of 79 (26 in Candianese) and so we sat out behind the shed in lawn chairs. We were only able to sit for about 20 mins at a time as the sun was hot and our lily white skin was a little tender. We only sat for about an hour total but I had a few red sections on my legs in the evening. Today is to be hotter yet so we will get our sun just out walking.

Good Morning 2012

Last night as I sat in the dark in the middle of the road looking up at the beautiful clear sky with the moon and stars shining, it was amazing to think that you at home could see the same thing with your eyes. Now as it was cold at home, and you probably were not sitting outside, I have to assume that none of you saw the same scene. Now don't worry that I am getting senile and I just sit in the middle of the road looking at the stars....there is an explanation. We were invited to a block party at the end of the curve where about 25 of the neighbours gathered with lawn chairs and visited and ate wonderful appetizers, drank what ever they bought to imbibe, and then as it cooled off they lit the fire pits and started the tall propane heaters, and then we had chili and corn bread. This has been a tradition through the years but a different couple in that same corner used to host it....Nancy and Charlie . They used to serve Hobo Stew where every one brings something and you throw it all together in a pot and cook it. It was always good they said and one time some one brought a can of peaches and they even threw that into the stew.  Last Monday Charlie died , but Nancy still insisted it went on, so another couple hosted it. Nancy was there with her cute little young pup....an adorable little dog that I held on my lap and fed him some of my Grape Cooler.....he loved it but had to go home early as he was tired it seemed.
Before you imagine this group of senior partyiers being crazy all night...NOT... the party started at 4 pm and by 6:30 most were yawning and headed home...We were one of the late ones and we didn't get home until 7 pm.....ha ha......   I was in bed and asleep by 9 pm ...yes we are absorbing la la land very well.
Today is New Years brunch at the Club House . Eggs in a bag, Mimosa, breads, Coffee and I am not sure what else.... I will try to get a picture for tomorrow......
